2-FDCK (2-Fluorodeschloroketamine), is a dissociative substance of the arylcyclohexylamine class. It is comparable to DCK and ketamine.

The history of 2-FDCK is not well-known, having first appeared on the market in 2017 as a research chemical. It is similar to deschloroketamine.

2-FDCK is classed as an arylcyclohexylamine substance. Arylcyclohexylamines are named for their structures which include a cyclohexane ring bound to an aromatic ring along with an amine group. (In other words, cycloalkane [monocyclic saturated hydrocarbons] bound to aromatic organic compounds with a functional group containing a basic nitrogen atom with a lone pair.)

2-FDCK contains a phenyl ring (phenyl groups are closely related to benzene and can be viewed as a benzene ring, minus a hydrogen) bonded to a cyclohexane ring (monocyclic saturated hydrocarbons) substituted with a ketone group (cyclohexanone).

An amino methyl chain (methylation is a form of alkylation, with a methyl group replacing a hydrogen atom) is bound to the adjacent alpha carbon (R2) of the cyclohexanone ring. Additionally, the phenyl ring is substituted at R2 with a fluorine group.

2-FDCK is a chiral molecule and is often produced as a racemate, meaning it’s composed of equal parts of the opposite enantiomers. Des- is a prefix used in chemistry to denote the absence of a functional group (in this case “chloro”). Ketamine has a chlorine substitution on the phenyl ring, whereas 2-FDCK does not. Therefore, in the name “Descholoroketamine,” deschloro means “without chloro.” As in, “ketamine without the chlorine ring.” This makes both compounds chemically differ from one another.

Instead of the chlorine ring, 2-FDCK contains a fluorine substitution at its phenyl ring. Fluorine is the thirteenth most common element in Earth’s crust at 600–700 ppm (parts per million) by mass. It is the lightest halogen and exists at standard conditions as a highly toxic, pale yellow diatomic gas. The “F” in 2-FDCK comes from the substance containing a fluorine substitution at its phenyl ring rather than the chlorine.
